Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
